Freight Ferries Converted

Extra decks are being added to P&O Ferries’ European Pathway at the Lloyd Werft schipyard in Bremerhaven. Germany as part of a £50m conversion project.
The two freight ferries, which became available with the closure of the company’s Dover-Zeebrügge freight service at the end of last year, will be reborn as multi-purpose superferries on the Dover-Calais route before the start of the busy summer season.
Each ship will gain an extra 5.000m² of passenger accommodation, with extensions to decks 7 through 10 and other works requiring some 1.400 tonnes of steel, 50 tonnes of paint and 120 km of calbing. Seating is being added for 2.000 passengers as well as restaurants, bars shops and entertainment areas.
Mechanically each vessel will receive a new diesel genset to meet increased power demand. Uprated bow thrusters and new rudder flaps.
