Star Princess and Pride of Hawaii

Germany’s Lloyd Werft, Bremerhaven has been busy in recent weeks with emergency repair work on two large cruise ships. Princess Cruises 2002-built, 108,977 grt Star Princess is at the Bremerhaven-based yard having 100 fire-damaged passenger cabins replaced. This vessel caught fire recently while on a Caribbean cruise. The damaged cabins were stripped out at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport before the vessel sailed across the Atlantic to Germany. Work is scheduled to be completed by mid-May prior to Star Princess starting her European cruise season with a sailing from Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Cruise Line’s 93,000 grt newbuilding Pride of Hawaii drydocked for four days at Lloyd Werft in early April to repair damaged Azipod bearings before being handed over by her builder Meyer Werft. The bearings in the propulsion pods were replaced after sea Trials, but then further faults were detected in the replacement bearings.
