Legendary liners meet up at Lloyd Werft
CUNARD Line`s Queen Elizabeth 2 (70,327 gt) has arrived at
Lloyd Werft from Southampton to undergo a 16-day refit until December 8, writes Ralf
Witthohn.
The last transatlantic liner took over the dry dock place of NCL`s Norway (76,049 gt), which had left the 330 m long Kaiserdock II two days before. The Norway had arrived at Bremerhaven on October 28. The rendezvous of the two legendary liners will last about one week, as the three-week stay of the Norway has been extended by 10 days.
Work on the QE2, which is being repaired for the fifth time by Lloyd Werft, includes classification work, overhaul of the propulsion system and the application of an environ-mental-friendly hull painting at total costs cited to amount to Dm19m. The Cunard liner will begin a cruise to Fort Lauderdale at Southampton on December 11. The Norway will restart service at Miami shortly before Christmas, after the ship`s owners Star Cruises dropped plans to relocate her to the Far East.
