Pride of America ventures out for it's first short trip

The first trip of NCL's 81,000 gt cruiseship newbuilding Pride of America offered the opportunity to test the vessel's two pods and three bow thrusters.

After mounting two propellers to the pod drives in Lloyd Werft dry dock, the Pride of America sailed under its own power to the Bremerhaven turning berth.

The floating out of the first large American passenger vessel newbuilding in nearly five decades was assisted by three tugs, which also took the vessel back to the outfitting pier.

From there a four-day trial, which will first of all focus on the testing of the vessel's diesel-electric propulsion system, is to start tomorrow. (.)

The Bremerhaven-based specialist expects to end its insolvency status by the completion of the Pride of America scheduled June 6.
